Description:

The SECURE Act has been with us for over six years, and planners know by now the five categories of Eligible Designated Beneficiaries.  EDBs are of course those special folks who can still qualify for the lifetime-stretch, while ordinary Designated Beneficiaries are limited to a 10-year stretch.  But not all EDBs are created equal.  Planners have spent a great deal of time focusing on surviving spouses and minor children, but perhaps not as much time considering the unique issues involved when planning for a beneficiary who is chronically ill.

Fortunately, attorney Andrew Hook has us covered.  He will share with us detailed information applicable to this specific EDB category – from threshold issues like who qualifies as “chronically ill” to the more complex attributes of applicable multi-beneficiary trusts (AMBTs).  Andy will discuss the differences between disabled and chronically ill beneficiaries, EDB certification and timing, planning with SNTs and AMBTs, beneficiary designation issues, and more.

Andy will explain that planning for chronically ill EDBs is an evolving practice area that enables planners to provide significant value for many of their clients.

Join us for a practical discussion of the rules, along with planning tools and takeaways you can use to add this niche to your practice with confidence.
